About me

Aloha! I am Estelle, thanks for visiting! I discovered yoga at the age of 20. My first class was a Kundalini Yoga class in Eugene, Oregon through the community college. I loved it! Eventually,  I changed schools to Oregon State University. While there I completed a Hatha Yoga class. I found the class to be very calming and it inspired me. I continued my yoga practice, going to classes on and off for many years. At this point, I was not super consistent, which I think many people can sympathize with. Even though health is wealth in many ways, we often neglect our health. When I eventually realized how much I really benefited from a regular practice, I decided to deepen my knowledge and pursue a yoga education, without the intention to become a teacher. However, when the opportunity to teach arose, I’d decided to do it and I am so very glad I did. After my first time teaching, I finally felt like this is what I’m suppose to be doing. It feels like a calling to me. Personally, I have gained so much from yoga asana practice and sharing the asana practice of yoga is a true joy for me.

I was born with scoliosis, doctors have always said it’s a mild case, not severe. However, with consistent neck and back tension, reduced breathing capacity, and uneven shoulders it doesn’t feel mild to me. It was because of practicing yoga asanas (postures) and pranayama (breathing techniques) that I realized the tension in my neck and back was greatly reduced when I practiced regularly. Also, I go to the chiropractor and receive massages regularly to take proper care of myself. No one gets a guide book to the body and each body is different.  I have learned through the years what is best for me. I encourage everyone to listen and learn their bodies as well. Consistent and regular yoga practice, massage, and chiropractic adjustments have been very beneficial for my body, mind, and spirit. My favorite type of yoga is Hatha Yoga, a focus on breathing and a little longer holds. My teacher training was on the beautiful Big Island of Hawaii at Hawaiian Healing Yoga with Stacey Lanterman, in the fall of 2014. There were only 4 students, it was very hands-on and a thorough training. She is an excellent educator and a true gem of a person. I am thrilled that I choose to study with Stacey. There are so many teachers to choose from and it can be tough to pick one. I am grateful that I was able to study with Stacey, as she has a focus on the healing aspects of Yoga and that is in alignment with me.

Additional training includes the wonderful opportunity of Yoga for Scoliosis with the infamous Elise Browning Miller. (Www.yogaforscoliosis.com) in Vancouver, Canada in fall 2015. She has tons of wisdom to share and it was great to learn from her. Also, it was so beneficial to be surrounded by other yogis who also have scoliosis and are interested in the incredible healing benefits of yoga. I lead Yoga for Scoliosis Series and workshops, as well as private lessons. I had the incredible opportunity of training with Katy Benjamin of Big Island Yoga Therapy. I learned so much! She is devoted and extremely knowledgeable with her C-IAYT (Certified International Association of Yoga Therapy) and I am forever grateful to her.

More recent trainings was a weeklong Level 2 training with the wonderful Julie Martin, creator of Brahami Yoga. We studied sequencing, doing rounds, new postures, anatomy, fascia, and she introduced me to so much wonderful new information. Her style of teaching is very unique and I love it. Her authenticity is much needed in the world and I look forward to more opportunities to learn from her.

If you have any questions, comments, or thoughts. Please don’t be shy, I’d love to hear from you!
